FAQ

Questions, answered.

Honest, plain-language answers to the questions families ask us most. If yours isn't here, we're just a phone call away.

How long is the wait for an evaluation?

Most families begin within 4–6 weeks. A standard neurodevelopmental evaluation can take a year or more to even start. We move swiftly by design, keeping our caseload capped so every evaluation gets the time and depth it deserves.

What ages do you evaluate?

We work with children, teens, and adults. The right tools and approach vary by age, so we tailor the evaluation to the person in front of us and confirm fit on your complimentary discovery call.

Do you take insurance?

We are an out-of-network practice, which lets us keep wait times short and time with each family long. We provide a detailed superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement, and a Good Faith Estimate before any evaluation begins.

What happens after the feedback session?

The feedback session is where we walk through your results and your personalized action plan together — including a version written for your child’s school or for your workplace when that applies. After that, the door stays open: Dr. Wolf is available for school meetings and additional parent meetings to help you navigate the plan and next steps, and that follow-up is included in your fee.

Why are waits so long elsewhere?

Demand has outpaced the number of clinicians who do this work. In a national survey of autism evaluation centers, nearly two-thirds (61%) reported waits longer than four months, and 15% reported waits of over a year or had closed their waitlists entirely (Cognoa survey, published by CMS). In Minnesota, where about 1 in 28 eight-year-olds is identified with autism, the average age of a clinical diagnosis is 4 years 7 months — about eight months later than the national average of 3 years 11 months (Minnesota Autism Portal). We keep our caseload deliberately small so that families here don’t have to wait that long.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed to book a discovery call or an evaluation. If your insurer requires one for reimbursement, we'll help you understand what to request.

What's included in the cost?

Our flat-rate fee is all-inclusive: intake and history, the direct assessment, scoring and integration, your full written report, and a feedback session with the doctor. No surprise bills.

Do you offer payment plans or financing?

Yes. We accept CareCredit, which lets you finance your evaluation and pay over time (often with interest-free options), so cost doesn't have to stand between your family and answers. We're also glad to arrange a payment plan when that works better, and you can use HSA or FSA funds toward the cost. A $500 deposit secures your appointment, and we'll walk through all of it on your complimentary discovery call, before you commit to anything.

Who will I work with?

You'll work directly with Dr. Shelby Wolf, from your first call to your final follow-up. No handoffs, and never passed from person to person.

How long does the whole process take?

Your feedback session is one to two weeks after testing, and your full written report is ready at that session. We’ll give you a clear timeline up front so you’re never left wondering.

Do you offer telehealth?

Partly. The intake conversation and your feedback session can both happen by secure video if that’s easier for your family. The testing itself is in person at our Mankato office — the tools we use work best face to face, and it lets us see your child or you at your most comfortable.

Where are you located?

We're based in Mankato, Minnesota — a thorough, local alternative to the long waits in the Twin Cities. Reach us at (507) 461-8062 or hello@clarityassessments.org.
